Volunteers Ramp It up

On Saturday August 20, volunteers from Celebration Church in St. Johns County came out to build wheelchair ramps for two elderly women, which will improve the quality of their lives.
Mrs. Ina Reddish had tears in her eyes when talking about the hustle and bustle of the crew, just outside her door.
“This just mean the world to me”, she said.
“I am so touched that people would give up their Saturday and work so hard in the heat and rain to build something that will make my life so much better.”

Mrs. Hazel McCullum,90 expressed similar sentiments.
“I feel so blessed to have these wonderful volunteers here,” she said.
Mrs. McCullum said not being able to go down the steps of her house has kept her indoors for sometime. The ramp she said, will give the ability to move about on her own.
“Now, maybe I can get out and work my yard a little.” she said with a smile.
The day began early for SJHP ramps builders, Cody Stanley and Harold Clemons, who lined up the foundation before the volunteers arrived.
With six volunteers at each home, construction sped along, undeterred by the heat and an early afternoon thunder shower.
By late afternoon, both ramps were complete, volunteers were hot, dirty and tired and Mrs. Reddish and Mrs. McCullum were delighted to have some new-found independence.
