Volunteers

Volunteers are a large factor in the success of the St. Johns Housing Partnership. Volunteering brings the community closer together in reaching mutual goals of safe and secure housing.

Northeast Florida Association of Realtors

A group of comiiteed volunteers from the northeast part of the county have been working with the partnership for more than one year. They have particpated in many projects inlcuding building ramps and painting and landscaping homes. Led by Don Mullinax, realtors from all over have given their time and talents to helping families. We couldn’t do what we do without them.

Building a Ramp

On September 11, 2010, SJHP partcipated in The National day of Service in honor of the victims, survivors and families of  that tragic day. How better to honor those than a day of community service? Volunteers fanned out across the county to paint, repair floors, landscape and weatherize and build wheelchair ramps for families in need.

Coretta was thrilled to be a part of the national day of service and received a new flag for her newly painted home.

Dusty Wilson has been with the St. Johns County Fire Department since 2003 and is now an engineer / paramedic which involved 1400 hours of training between classes, the hospital, and rescues – in addition to his regular work hours.

Dusty is also a regular volunteer with the St. Johns Housing Partnership, offering skills learned from eight years doing framing and drywall. Dusty gathers 5 to 20 of firefighters to volunteer their time and skills to SJHP. Many have a background in construction, so they build a lot of wheelchair ramps. We thank Dusty for all the service he gives in helping others.

The Ramp Squad includes Trinity parishioners who volunteer their time to perform various service projects within the Parish and in the broader community. The Ramp Squad is a group of approximately 12 Brotherhood of St. Andrews members whos primary project is working with the Housing Partnership to build residential ramps for use by otherwise home-bound disabled people in St. Johns County.

Founded by Ken Chivers, who passed away in December, 2005; the Ramp Squad has built over 120 wheelchair ramps in St. Johns County. Letters of gratitude from the homebound, newly furnished with accessibility, are a testimony to the positive impact this brotherhood has on the community.
