Lazar Elected To Florida Green Building Coalition Board
ST. PETERSBURG – The Florida Green Building Coalition (FGBC), the state’s leading certifier of green residential and commercial construction, land developments and local governments, has announced that St. Johns Housing Partnership (SJHP) Executive Director Bill lazar has been elected to the 2025 Board of Directors.
“We are very happy to have Bill on our board. His commitment to sustainability and green building standards go hand in glove with the SJHP mission to ensure every person has a safe, clean, affordable place to live,” noted FGBC President Ralph Locke.
Lazar has been in the business of helping to develop low-cost housing and keep people in their homes in Northeast Florida for more than two decades. He started the SJHP in 1998. Before that he managed the SHIP Rehab contract as part of my work with the Jacksonville Housing Partnership.
“Housing is the reason we exist and the reason we show up every single day. We know that you cannot build a life without a safe and affordable home,” Lazar said.
Lazar received the Jean Diggs Weatherization Champion Award from the National Association for State Community Service Programs. New construction built by SJHP is FGBC green certified.
Unlike other green certifications, FGBC “Florida Green” standards take a scientific approach and are developed with state-specific criteria. They address Florida’s hot-humid environment, climate, distinctive topography, unique geology, resiliency, and natural disasters.
FGBC recently passed 35,000 “Florida Green” certifications of single-family homes, commercial buildings, high-rises, land developments and local governments.
Beyond third party certifications, FGBC is also a resource for the builders, developers, contractors, architects, and municipalities when considering going green.
